From This is Somerset, there is a move on to create an anthem for Cheddar. I can hear it to “Jerusalem” now…
And should this cheese, of moldy rind…
Most people have, at one time, been criticised for writing a cheesy line.
But now, in celebration of the cheese that came from a small part of Somerset and is now the nation’s go-to cheese for its sandwiches and ploughmans’, odes to Cheddar are being positively encouraged.

In order to boost the hard cheese’s fortunes even further, the British Cheese Board (BCB) has announced the launch of a nationwide competition to find an anthem for this tasty national treasure.
The BCB is calling on choirs, singing groups, budding song writers and Cheddar fans to pen their very own ode, with original lyrics set to the patriotic tunes of either God Save the Queen, Land of Hope and Glory or Jerusalem.
