California is a cheese-lover’s state. A landscape packed with rolling hills and blessed with temperate weather means our livestock grows fat and strong on rich coastal grasses and a nearly year-long grazing period. The milk from our cattle, sheep, and goats is some of the highest quality in the country, which makes for a dizzying range of superlative cheeses.

  1. How about: Pt. Reyes Blue, Midnight Moon (I know it’s Cypress Grove, but not as popular as Humboldt Fog), Andante Acapella Ashed Round, and Red Hawk (Cowgirl, but so stinky and luscious)
