California is a cheese-lover’s state. A landscape packed with rolling hills and blessed with temperate weather means our livestock grows fat and strong on rich coastal grasses and a nearly year-long grazing period. The milk from our cattle, sheep, and goats is some of the highest quality in the country, which makes for a dizzying range of superlative cheeses.

While some cheesemakers are revered for being the crème de la crème of California Cheeses – think Cowgirl Creamery and Cyprus Grove – a few others are local favorites and should enjoyed regularly and with great fanfare. Below you’ll find four firm and semi-firm California cheeses that you should seek out right now, right this very second, and savor every last bite.

  1. How about: Pt. Reyes Blue, Midnight Moon (I know it’s Cypress Grove, but not as popular as Humboldt Fog), Andante Acapella Ashed Round, and Red Hawk (Cowgirl, but so stinky and luscious)

Salutation Recipes

I'm trying to keep a log of all the things we cook which taste really lovely. You know what it's like: you tweak and tweak a recipe until it's barely recognisable and then wonder how you used to make it. And it will also save a lot of time and bits of paper when it comes to sharing those recipes with friends.
